Your Social Content Has Been Ranking on Google This Whole Time. Now You Can Prove It

For years, the honest answer to “which channel actually drove that lead” has been a shrug. Somewhere between your Instagram posts, your TikToks, and your YouTube uploads, a customer finds you through a Google search, and nobody can say which post or platform did the work. Google just closed part of that gap.

What Changed

On July 7, 2026, Google added a new property type to Search Console called platform properties.

  • Connect an Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube account and see how that content performs in Google Search and Discover.
  • It’s the first Search Console property that doesn’t require owning a website, so creators with no site can use it too.
  • Rolled out gradually starting in July; as of this month it’s available globally.
  • Full detail lives in Google’s help center article.

What You Get

Each connected account comes with three reports:

  • Performance — clicks, impressions, filterable by individual post or search query
  • Insights — traffic trends and your top-performing posts at a glance
  • Achievements — growth milestones, like new click thresholds over 28 days

How to Set It Up

  1. Sign in to Search Console with the Google account you want managing this.
  2. Open the property selector (top left) and click “Add property.”
  3. Choose your platform: Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube.
  4. Authorize the connection. This differs by platform: Instagram and TikTok require logging in to that account directly; X uses its own authorization flow; YouTube is fastest if you’re already signed into the same Google account.
  5. Wait for data. It takes a few days to populate, and reports default to a 28-day window.

Things to Know Before You Start

  • Each account needs its own property. Three Instagram accounts plus a YouTube channel means four separate setups, not one.
  • Don’t see the option yet? It should be available now; check again in a day before assuming it’s broken.
  • Connections can lapse. Google periodically re-checks account ownership. If a login expires, the property pauses until you re-verify. Historical data isn’t lost.
  • No bulk setup. There’s no stated API at launch, so agencies managing multiple client accounts should budget time to verify each one by hand.

Why This Is Worth Your Attention

It Closes a Real Attribution Blind Spot
  • Native app analytics (likes, views, followers) never showed whether Google itself was surfacing your posts to people who weren’t already following you.
  • Platform properties don’t solve attribution completely; there’s still no single dashboard tying a TikTok impression directly to a closed sale.
  • But they close the specific gap that’s frustrated marketers for years: you can now see, in Google’s own data, whether your Reels, Shorts, and posts are earning search visibility, or just sitting in a feed talking to people you’ve already reached.
It's a Diagnostic Signal, Not a Vanity Metric
  • The value isn’t the click count itself, it’s what the click count tells you to do next.
  • A spike in impressions on a video reflects people actively searching, not just people scrolling, which is a fundamentally different signal than views or likes.
  • If a how-to video is pulling search impressions and your promo video isn’t, that’s a concrete signal for what to publish next, not just what to report on.
Social Content Is a Discovery Layer, Not the Destination
  • A platform property only reports how content performs on Google Search and Discover; it won’t tell you what happened inside the app itself.
  • It isn’t a ranking signal or a promise of better reach. Treat it as evidence of discovery, not proof of conversion.
  • Social content was never meant to be the destination. It should lead somewhere built to convert: a website, a booking page, a funnel.
  • The businesses that get the most out of this feature will connect it to that next step, not just watch the numbers climb.
What This Means for Your Growth System
  • If you’ve never been able to answer which of your channels is actually earning you visibility on Google, this is the first real chance to find out.
  • We map exactly where these signals fit into your broader growth system, funnel first, so nothing you publish is guesswork.
  • One conversation, no pressure.
